Mexico’s Luis Alberto Lopez looks to continue his epic run at 126 when he defends the IBF featherweight title against Angelo Leo in Albuquerque.
Lopez (30-2) established himself as a road warrior when he beat Josh Warrington in Leeds in 2022 for the IBF belt. He then traveled to Dublin and punished Michael Conlan . “El Venado” last fought in March, earning a masterful TKO win against Reiya Abe in the U.S.
The 30-year-old has established himself as one of the top featherweights in the world, and he looks to repeat with a dominant win. His goal is to move on to future unification fights.
“On August 10, I will make it abundantly clear who the king of the featherweight division is. This will be the fourth defense of my world title, and I’m preparing for a great battle against a former world champion like Angelo Leo,” Lopez said. “It will be a magical night for all the fans in New Mexico. I know he is the local fighter, but you already know what happens when I enter enemy territory. The ‘Road Warrior’ is back, and I will put all the division’s champions on notice.”

Leo (24-1) won the WBO super bantamweight title in 2020 but lost the belt a few months later against Stephen Fulton. He is 4-0 since then, with three wins via knockout. “El Chinito” looks to conquer another division at the expense of Lopez.

I couldn’t ask for more,” Leo said. “I know Lopez is one of the top champions in my division, and a win over him would be huge for me and my city. I’m in the prime of my career and can’t wait to show the world the fighter I’ve become since winning my first world title in 2020.”
