Tigres vs. NYCFC free live stream: How to watch Leagues Cup Round of 16 match without cable

    By Kyle Bonn,

Still unbeaten through the start of the season, Liga MX giants Tigres hope to improve on their Leagues Cup performance last season with a Round of 16 matchup against NYCFC in New Jersey on Tuesday.

UANL were eliminated at this stage in last year's tournament, beaten by fellow Mexican side Monterrey by a 1-0 score. They have a softer matchup against NYCFC, who are in the midst of a lengthy winless run and have only reached this stage thanks to multiple winning performances in penalty shootouts.

Legendary striker Andre-Pierre Gignac remains a force at 38 years old, and will be a threat for the recently leaky NYCFC back line. The club managed to work a scoreless draw to open group stage play against Queretaro, but has since conceded five goals in two matches against FC Cincinnati and the New England Revolution.

Liga MX sides largely struggled in last year's competition, but have shown some slight improvement this summer and are being led by their strongest clubs. Tigres are firmly entrenched in that elite group alongside the likes of Club America and Cruz Azul, although Monterrey and Chivas were bounced in the group stage.

What time is Tigres vs. NYCFC kickoff?

This Leagues Cup Round of 16 match kicks off from Red Bull Arena on Tuesday, August 13 at 8 p.m. local time in Harrison, New Jersey.

Because the "hub rights" for Tigres expired after the group stage, they are forced to play away at any MLS opponent the rest of the Leagues Cup. While NYCFC play most home matches at Yankee Stadium, due to the unpredictable nature of knockout tournaments, the club is playing all Leagues Cup matches at nearby Red Bull Arena as to avoid conflicting with any Yankees home games.

Here's how the match's kickoff time translates across the time zones in North America:

    Date Kickoff time
    Eastern Time Tue, Aug. 13 8 p.m.
    Central Time Tue, Aug. 13 7 p.m.
    Mountain Time Tue, Aug. 13 6 p.m.
    Pacific Time Tue, Aug. 13 5 p.m.

Tigres vs. NYCFC lineups & team news

As the Liga MX season has only just begun, Tigres sport a largely fit squad, with only the recovery of David Ayala from a broken kneecap to work around.

Goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman remains suspended for Liga MX play after shining a laser pointer at an opposing goalkeeper during a match, but he is eligible to participate in the Leagues Cup and has started all three games in this competition, conceding two goals.

Club legend Andre-Pierre Gignac remains a dangerous presence despite the fact he will turn 39 years old before 2024 is finished. He has yet to score in three Leagues Cup matches, but sports two goals in Tigres' four Liga MX matches of the young season.

Tigres projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): N. Guzman (GK) — Aquino, Pizarro, Reyes, Angulo — Gorriaran, Carioca — Herrera, Brunetta, Cordova — Gignac.

NYCFC are largely fully fit, with only a few minor injuries to work around.

Midfielder Andres Perea , who arrived this past winter in a trade with the Philadelphia Union, has been sidelined with a leg injury the last two matches but should be back soon. Meanwhile, draftee Malachi Jones out of Lipscomb has been sidelined with a broken leg since early July.

Head coach Nick Cushing started both the club's big-money youngsters in Jovan Mijatovic and Augstin Ojeda in the Round of 32, and could give them another chance to impress here as they continue to work their way into the club's rotation. Both were highly touted upon their arrival this winter and will be expected to continue increasing their contributions.

NYCFC projected starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Freese (GK) — Gray, Martins, Risa, McFarlane — Parks, Sands — Wolf, S. Rodriguez, Ojeda — Mijatovic.

Tigres vs. NYCFC prediction, betting odds & lines

    • Score prediction: Tigres 2-0 NYCFC

NYCFC sit fifth in the Eastern Conference standings, but they have yet to win a match in the Leagues Cup, having drawn two and lost one, advancing solely on the back of two penalty shootout victories. In fact, NYCFC haven't won a match at all since July 3 against CF Montreal, a run of seven straight without a win.

Tigres, meanwhile, have yet to taste defeat not just in their three Leagues Cup games, but on the young season at all, entering the competition with three wins and a draw in their four Liga MX matches.

While the MLS club still has a strong shot at reaching the playoffs, their Leagues Cup hopes face an uphill battle in this match.
