The Washington Commanders had the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

    They selected QB Jayden Daniels.

Washington hopes they found their franchise QB in Daniels.

The Commanders also drafted TE Ben Sinnott in the second round of the NFL Draft.

Another draft pick the Commanders made was selecting WR Luke McCaffrey with the 100th pick in the third round.

Luke is star RB Christian McCaffrey’s younger brother.

It was unclear what Luke’s role would be in his rookie year.

The Commanders recently traded WR Jahan Dotson to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The WR room got a bit thinner, with Terry McLaurin standing alone as the clear number-one wideout on the team.

However, with Dotson traded, this leaves room for Luke McCaffrey to solidify himself as the second-top wideout on the team and become a fantasy football sleeper in 2024.

Luke McCaffrey’s Value Goes Up In Fantasy Football

The Commanders are an unknown on offense to begin the year.

Their offensive success, or lack thereof, depends highly on rookie QB Jayden Daniels.

McCaffrey worked with Washington’s second and third-string offense during the first two preseason games.

However, with Dotson traded, and a lack of talent at the WR position behind McLaurin, McCaffrey may find himself being the number two WR early in the season.

Dyami Brown and Olamide Zaccheaus have been splitting outside snaps opposite McLaurin on the first-team offense, with Dotson getting most of the slot work pre-trade.

McCaffrey has worked both outside and inside this summer, and at 6-foot-2 with 4.46 speed he isn’t necessarily limited to the slot.

On three WR sets, McCaffrey may work the slot, taking over Dotson’s role.

It could take some time but McCaffrey may work his way to taking over the number two role and play on the outside, opposite McLaurin on two WR sets as the season progresses.

With Dotson gone, this leaves the door open for Luke to be a valuable sleeper in fantasy football.

There’s still a lot of competition for targets between McLaurin, Austin Ekeler, Sinnott, Zach Ertz, and Brown, but McCaffrey has the size and talent to become the team’s clear number two WR and be a fantasy asset as he builds chemistry with fellow rookie Jayden Daniels.
