2023/2024 Transfer Portal Recap – Oklahoma State

    By Mark Pszonak

With action in the transfer portal slowing down, it is time to take a closer look at how each P4 school did during this cycle. Up now are the Oklahoma State Cowboys

The skinny: Coming off a 10-4 season, Oklahoma State was able to retain most of their important players on both sides of the ball as they positioned themselves for a potentially memorable season in Stillwater. On top of that, the Cowboys also only had nine scholarship players enter the portal during this cycle, one of the lesser amounts in the country. While head coach Mike Gundy didn't have to dive into the portal too deeply during this cycle, he was still able to add a few important pieces that could prove to be invaluable as the season progresses.

Total # entries into portal: 18

Total # of scholarship players who entered portal: 9

Number of scholarship players who withdrew: 0

Key losses: WR Jaden Bray (West Virginia), DB D.J. McKinney (Colorado)

Key additions: WR Gavin Freeman (Oklahoma), TE Tyler Foster (Ohio), DE Obi Ezeigbo (D2 Gannon), DB Kobe Hylton (UTEP)

Final thoughts: With elite returning talent like RB Ollie Gordon II , the nation’s leading returning rusher, LB Collin Oliver , S Kendal Daniels , WR Brennan Presley and LB Nick Martin all returning, plus QB Alan Bowman back for his seventh collegiate season, the Cowboys didn’t have to be very aggressive in the portal. One concern is the defensive line, which they hope to have addressed by adding pass rusher Obi Ezeigbo . He dominated the Division II level last year, but how will that translate to the Big 12? The passing game already had the potential to be explosive, but then the Cowboys added WR Gavin Freeman and TE Tyler Foster , while the secondary added depth and experience with Kobe Hylton , who totaled 146 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss and seven pass breakups during his last two seasons at UTEP. Some programs use the portal to try and reload their roster, Oklahoma State was in a position this year to just try and enhance a few positions. Everyone will see if that was enough to take the Cowboys to the next level in 2024.
