Junior reaches championship match at 107 pounds

Eagan junior Dylan St. Germain fell just short of becoming the second Eagan High School wrestler in history to win a state championship, but he did earn a state medal for the second consecutive year.

St. Germain, one of four Wildcats to reach the March 1-2 Class 3A tournament at Xcel Energy Center, advanced to the finals at 107 pounds against Liam Collins of Prior Lake. Collins was ranked first in the weight class and St. Germain second by theguillotine.com.

Collins (41-1) was ahead 6-1 in the second period before ending the match with a pin at 2 minutes, 44 seconds.

St. Germain, who finished 43-3, also medaled at state in 2023, taking sixth at 106 pounds.

For now, Colin Fisher remains Eagan’s only state wrestling champion. He won the Class 3A 285-pound title in 2013.

St. Germain didn’t allow a point in his first three state tournament matches. He led Owatonna’s Kaden Lindquist 7-0 in their first-round match before pinning him with 14 seconds remaining. St. Germain beat Wyatt Koenen of Wayzata 7-0 in the second round.

Northfield sophomore Kaley Graber, the first girl to win a match at the state boys tournament, was St. Germain’s opponent in the semifinals. Graber (41-6) won her first two matches before losing to St. Germain 4-0. Graber went on to finish fifth in the weight class.

Eagan sophomore Logan Gilbertson wrestled one match at state at 160, losing to Lindson Turner of Stillwater 9-4. Gilbertson (25-9) was eliminated from wrestlebacks when Turner lost his second-round match.

Junior Alex Loes finished 18-18 after losing both of his matches at 189. He lost by technical fall to No. 1-ranked Cole Han-Lindemyer of Farmington in the first round.

Eagan’s Cole Will, ranked sixth at 285, went 1-2 at the state tournament. Will, a junior, opened with a 12-6 victory over Grant Lower of Owatonna. A 3-0 loss to Parker Orvik of Bemidji sent Will (36-7) to the wrestlebacks, where he lost to Isiah Wright of Champlin Park 6-4.
