Newly approved funding helps clear wildfire fuels near Ogden-area homes
OGDEN — Firefighters in Ogden are working to prepare and protect high-risk areas from wildfires, thanks to new state funding approved in early 2024. The funding is aimed at areas in the wildland-urban interface, where a lot could be lost quickly in the right conditions. This is something that almost happened to Ryan Bessey two years ago.
Russ Wilson selected as Honored Veteran for the 4th of July Parade
Russ Wilson found out that he was to be named the Honored Veteran for the 4th of July Parade at the last meeting of the Legion, when he was nominated by the leadership. “They said, ‘I’m nominating Russ Wilson for the Honored Veteran and I’m not hearing anything else,’” Wilson laughs, before adding “I’m going to get even with them.”

Ogden Canyon Road Construction Updates 7/3/24
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will implement safety enhancements in Ogden Canyon during Summer 2024, including centerline sinusoidal rumble strips and upgraded barriers. The strips are designed to alert distracted drivers by generating vibration and low-noise levels, particularly at curved regions of roadway. The pre-cast barriers are specifically designed to firmly protect vehicles that wander outside westbound travel lanes near the mouth of the canyon. See the project website for additional information.

July means fireworks. But in a dry state like Utah, fireworks are only legal to set off from July 2-5 and July 22-25 for Pioneer Day. They’re also legal during New Year’s Eve and Chinese New Year’s Eve. Additionally, they are never allowed on federal lands and local restrictions vary from city to city.

Fire restrictions begin for 9 northern Utah counties | News
LOGAN — New fire restrictions are in effect for nine northern Utah counties. The limitations begin Monday, July 1. Officials with the Utah Department of Natural Resources announced Sunday that “all unincorporated Private and State lands in Box Elder, Cache, Rich, Weber, Tooele, Utah, Salt Lake, Davis, & Morgan Counties” will be placed under stage one fire restrictions.
U.S. Route 89 Construction Updates
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will resurface U.S. Route 89 in Weber County from SR- 193 (Exit 404) to the Weber River Bridge. The project objectives are aimed at preserving the life of the roadway. The paving process will help increase the longevity of the road surface, address roadway structural integrity and enhance motorist safety by providing a smoother, more durable road surface. The resurfacing includes the on/off ramps at SR-60 and SR-193, as well as the southbound concrete climbing lane.

3DP Belt Press Provides Huge Savings for Utah Water Treatment Plant
The City of Ogden Water Treatment Plant struggled with solids dewatering, often operating multiple shifts and incurring high costs for polymer. In 2019, the city replaced its screw press with a 1.5 meter 3DP Belt Press. The 3DP more than doubled the capacity of the screw press, increased discharge cake solids from 20% to over 30%, increased solids capture to over 95%, reduced operating time by more than half, and reduced polymer consumption by over 80%.
Ogden Shakespeare Festival set to debut this month with presentation of ‘As You Like It’
