LCSD budget tightens following declining enrollment
Budget adjustments are in the works as the Lincoln County School District Budget Committee reviews a proposed $89,737,618 general fund budget submitted by LCSD Superintendent Majalise Tolan, which includes staffing reductions reflecting declining enrollment and higher operating coats. State school funding is primarily based on student enrollment. Fewer students results in less state funding. The largest enrollment losses are in the primary grades, specifically kindergarten, according to Tolan. ...

Letter: I support OCCC’s plan for trades education center
As a longstanding resident of Lincoln County who is deeply invested in our community's welfare and education, I urge your support for Bond Measure 21-224 supporting OCCC’s plan to build a new trades education center. Maintaining a residence in our area poses unique challenges. We frequently rely on skilled professionals such as electricians, plumbers, well-pump maintenance experts, appliance repair technicians, and small engine mechanics (for chainsaws, etc.). They often can’t get to you for weeks because they don’t have enough qualified staff. In my conversations...
Letter: Vote yes on Measure 21–224

If passed, this measure would renew the college levy at the current rate, meaning no increase in tax rate for Lincoln County property owners. But the benefits for Lincoln County would be enormous. Funds from this bond, coupled with an $8 million match from the state, would allow the college to build a state-of-the-art trades education center at its Newport campus. This dedicated trades education center would...
