    Florida drivers face fines for speeding in school zones

    The big story: It’s been a year since Florida lawmakers gave local jurisdictions more authority to monitor school zones for speeders, allowing for cameras and fines in an effort to keep violators in check.

    Participation in the initiative continues to grow, with an increasing number of municipalities approving the necessary equipment and updated policies.

    The Tallahassee city commission is among the latest to join in, sealing a 5-year deal with RedSpeed Florida to have cameras in school zones and also implementing a $100 fine for drivers who get caught, the Tallahassee Democrat reports.
