The blue-chip ratio, created by industry experts, has been an effective way to measure the quality of top rosters. Our team of analysts is already looking ahead to the 2025 recruiting class, and we found that the Florida State Seminoles are on the verge of entering the elite company.

See why the 2025 Seminoles recruiting class can vault the Seminoles into the CFP race.

Florida State Seminoles 2025 Blue-Chip Ratio

With all nine players committed to Mike Norvell's Seminoles in 2025, either a 4- or 5-star prospect, Florida State is in unique territory. Surely, they won't finish with a full class of blue-chippers as they round out the team with local 3-star options. But they're the only team in the nation with a full slate of elite prospects to this point.

Since its launch in 2013, the Blue-Chip Ratio has gained recognition from leading broadcast networks and drawn keen interest from leading coaches and college sports administrators. This criterion has also been used in the revival of the EA Sports College Football video game. Although the formula itself isn't particularly intricate, it serves as a reliable indicator for pinpointing the top 10% of college football teams that have a genuine chance at claiming the championship title.

If a college football team aims to clinch the national championship, it must secure more four- and five-star recruits—often referred to as "Blue Chips"—than it does two- and three-star recruits across the four most recent recruiting classes.

Every title-winning team since 2011 has boasted at least a 52% ratio, including the Seminoles' 2013 mark of 53%. Several teams have been well over the 70% rate, so it's clear there are only ever a few teams even in the mix to win it all well before the games begin. That's discouraging for some, but the harsh reality.

Florida State's 2024 Blue Chip Ratio Falls Short

If history continues, the Seminoles won't have a chance to win the CFP in 2024. They have a 49% blue chip ratio entering this fall, but it's important to note that transfer portal additions aren't considered. No title-winning teams have benefitted significantly enough from transfer additions, so the computations haven't changed yet.

As of today, the teams with at least a 50% blue chip ratio for the 2025 recruiting class include Florida State (100%), Oregon (93%), LSU (92%), Georgia (88%), Ohio State (77%), Alabama (78%), and several others who aren't usually in the title mix.
