Southern California teens to compete in solar-powered car race in Texas
Three teams of high school students from Southern California prepared Friday to head to Texas to compete in an annual solar-powered car race with cars they designed and built. For the Solar Car Challenge, a 4-days race taking place at Texas Motor Speedway, students at Temple City High School were testing their solar-powered vehicles that they built from scratch.
Alleged reckless driver hits Los Angeles County deputy during pursuit
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was in pursuit of a reckless driver who allegedly hit a deputy.Deputies were able to trap the driver in a parking lot near Buliss Road and Myrrh Street in Compton after spiking the car's tires and blocking the exits. The driver stayed in a parking spot while deputies surrounded the vehicle and placed another spike strip in front of it. The suspect refused to surrender, aimlessly driving around the parking lot while dragging a spike strip.Deputies boxed the suspect in with their vehicles after a brief drive around the parking lot. They shot pepper balls into the back of the sedan after pinning the suspect's car to hopefully end the standoff. However, the suspect and a passenger inside refused to exit the car but did roll down the driver-side window. After a brief standoff, the driver and the passenger surrendered to deputies.

MALIBU, Calif. - A late-night crash on the 4th of July left a driver dead on a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, investigators said. Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said the two-vehicle crash happened on PCH just west of Carbon Canyon just after 11 p.m. Thursday.

Neighbors and friends are invited to join Villagers for a ribbon cutting to celebrate Pasadena Village’s new Little Free Library on Tuesday, July 9, 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm. Pasadena Village is member-driven, meaning all programming is planned and facilitated by Villagers in their 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. This free library is an extension of the Villagers’ strong interest in literature and literacy.
