    First Friday ArtWalk events returns downtown this week

    The First Friday ArtWalk is back this week and will feature more than 20 stops including a peek inside Jarvis Church, vendors and live music outside the science museum and downtown trolley rides.

    Coordinated by Emerge Gallery & Art Center in partnership with Visit Greenville, NC and the City of Greenville, its the first ArtWalk of the 2024-25 season, which runs September-June.

    Downtown galleries, museums, restaurants, breweries and music venues will participate in the event from 5-8 p.m. with new art exhibitions, artist and maker markets, live music performances, open mic events and more.

    Visitors can explore at their own pace with a self-guided walking tour or hop on the Emerald Express Trolley for a swift journey between stops.

    The free trolley runs from 5-8 p.m. during all ArtWalks through downtown including the Dickinson Avenue district and reaching ECU’s main campus, completing a full loop roughly every 20 minutes.

    Among other events, the Art Lab at the N.C. Museum of Natural Science, 226 W. Eighth St., will host an outdoor market with live music and more than 15 artists selling their goods from paintings to ceramics to treats. The free event also will feature live music.

    Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church, 510 S. Washington St., also will open its sanctuary to visitors from 5-7:30 p.m. to view the church’s vaulted ceilings, stained-glass windows and sanctuary. Visit jarvis.church and facebook.com/downtowngreenvilleartwalk.

    Coming up next month, First Friday will celebrate Greenville’s 250th anniversary from 5-8 p.m. on Oct. 4 at Five Points Plaza. The event will feature live music by The Dickens, a vendor market, a beer garden and a $250 giveaway every hour and more fun for the whole family. Visit 250.greenvillenc.gov.
