Breakthrough for Desert Chapel as Eagles win for first time as an 11-man team

Saturday was a big day for the Desert Chapel football program as they picked up their first-ever win as an 11-man team.

The Eagles switched from eight-man to 11-man last year and went winless, but after a close loss in Week 1, they broke through in Week 2. Chapel went on the road and easily handled Workman High School from City of Industry in a 30-6 victory.

In the win, quarterback Sam Mourhess and receiver Jayvon Garcia had a nice connection as they combined for two touchdowns, one a 6-yarder and one a 60-yarder. Mourhess also hit Jordan Jensen for a 6-yard score. Jensen ran it in from four yards out for the other touchdown.

"We're optimistic and now that they've tasted victory, they see, for the first time, what can be if they just keep trusting themselves and trusting the system," said Eagles coach J. David Miller.

Desert Chapel (1-1) is off next week, before returning to action with a game of note for them as they host Desert Christian Academy on Sept. 12.
