A Sanford man arrested Sunday allegedly ripped the shorts off a 9-year-old girl during a sexual assault at a Fayetteville home.

Jose Sanchez, 37, of St. Andrews Road, is charged with indecent liberties with a child in the incident that occurred on Saturday at a home on Redwood Drive, court records state.

According to an arrest warrant, the victim was reportedly playing in her father's bedroom when Sanchez, whose relationship to the family was not noted, walked in and attempted to kiss the 9-year-old. Sanchez allegedly ripped the child's boxer shorts off during the assault, the warrant states.

The child screamed and attempted to call 911, and the girl's father, who was also in the home, confronted Sanchez, and he left, the record states.
