We don't use the term " Sugarfish killer" lightly, but that's what Rockpool in Beverly Hills has the makings of—a reasonably priced omakase spot in an area known for sushi that costs as much as a car payment. This casual counter from the chef behind Yasu focuses on bargain sushi sets that sprinkle in California-sourced seafood like seared rockfish and bluefin tuna (something you don't see too often). Options span the Light Bite set for $25, to the all-in Deep Sea for $58, which includes 10 nigiri, two handrolls, sashimi, and miso soup. The room is as bare as a soundstage and they're still fine-tuning their takeout operation, but the fish quality is impressive, the warm sushi rice has a nice kiss of vinegar, and you're given a bowl of yuzu sorbet for dessert. Find us here when we want great sushi that won't blow our monthly budget in one meal.
