Patrick Mahomes Sr. pleads guilty in DWI case as NFL star’s dad marks over 6 months sober

THE father of Chiefs superstar Patrick Mahomes has pleaded guilty to charges of driving while intoxicated.

Patrick Mahomes Sr., 54, who has been sober for six months following his third DWI incident, was arrested on February 3 after he was pulled over in Texas with an alcohol content of 0.23.

Mahomes Sr., who was set to face trial in October, changed his plea to guilty on Tuesday.

The elder Mahomes was pulled over by police in Tyler, Texas, about an hour and a half east of Dallas, days before his son, 28, and the Kansas City Chiefs were set to play in the Super Bowl .

Tyler police pulled over Mahomes Sr. after they noticed he was driving slower than others.

When cops approached Mahomes Sr.’s vehicle , they noticed an open 16-ounce Coors beer can in the center console, according to an arrest affidavit.

Mahomes Sr. admitted to police that he “had a few beers” while watching a game at a bar, according to court documents.

Police conducted a standardized field sobriety test and noticed multiple signs of intoxication.

His car’s registration had also expired in September 2022, per documents.

PLEA AND SENTENCING

Following his guilty plea, Mahomes Sr. is expected to receive five years probation with intense supervision the first year, per CBS affiliate KYTX .

If he fails his probation, a third DWI would be considered a third-degree felony.

In 2019, Mahomes Sr. was sentenced to 40 days in jail for a DWI second or more, per KYTX.

He reportedly spent the weekends in jail to satisfy his sentence.

A person convicted of a third-degree felony could face up to 10 years in prison and, at most, a $10,000 fine, according to the Texas Penal Code.

Mahomes Sr. will be sentenced on September 23.

SOBER MILESTONE

In early August, Mahomes Sr. marked his six-month sober milestone with a post on Instagram .

He shared a picture of himself and Cincinnati Red’s Pete Rose with his 32,000 followers.

“I would like to thank my God wife family and friends for 6 months on the sunny side of the road,” he wrote .

“I know it’s been hard getting to know sober Pat but it’s well worth it.”

“Trisha Mahomes thanks for all you do,” he said, referencing his wife.

People flooded his comments with praise and support.

“My brother!! All the way up from here! Happy for you and incredibly proud of you,” one wrote.

“Love you and proud of you, Pat,” shared another.

“Huge congratulations! That’s hard work. You’ve got this and so happy you have such a great support system,” commented a user.

“Keep up the good work! We are pulling for you!!!!” said a fourth.
