Fans of the legendary Disney artist Mary Blair will want to check out the all-day celebration honoring her work Wednesday at the Hilbert Museum of California Art, including a costume contest with prizes and an evening lecture on her works.

The Hilbert Museum in Orange California is currently showcasing "Mary Blair’s Wonderland: Imagining Disney’s ‘Alice,’" an exhibition that highlights the renowned artist's concept art for Disney's 1951 animated film "Alice in Wonderland." The exhibition runs through September 7 in the museum’s Cinema Arts galleries.

Mary Blair's art is celebrated for its bold colors and simplified shapes, offering a modern and visually striking interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s classic tale. Her whimsical and surreal design choices brought a playful, dreamlike quality to the film's concept art, with curious landscapes and fantastical characters.

Despite Blair's distinctive modernist style, the Disney animation team opted for the traditional rounded character design used in their previous animated features.
