Joel Klatt Names Major College Football Head Coach With 'A Little Tiger Woods In Him'

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer will face the massive pressure of replacing a legend next season. DeBoer replaced former Alabama head coach Nick Saban, who announced his retirement this offseason.
On a recent appearance on The Next Round , college football analyst Joel Klatt believes that DeBoer has qualities that remind him of a PGA legend, which will contribute to his success in Tuscaloosa.
“What I love about Kalen is that he’s got a little Tiger Woods in him,” Klatt said. “And I’m not trying to say he’s the greatest of all time. I don’t know if you guys remember this, but the day after Nick retired, I said Kalen DeBoer is gonna be the head coach at Alabama, but this is why.
"Tiger Woods used to talk about, yes, I need to be technically proficient at my craft. But I also need to learn how to be great at winning, which is why he was great at winning,” Klatt continued.
DeBoer has consistently found success, dating back to his five seasons at Sioux Falls. Under DeBoer, the Cougars made four consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Championship game, winning three of their four appearances.
After two successful seasons at Fresno State, DeBoer led Washington to a 25-3 record over the past two seasons. He led the Huskies to a Pac-12 championship and an appearance in the CFP National Championship game.
Klatt expressed his confidence in DeBoer's ability to win in Tuscaloosa and believes his winning tradition will continue with the Crimson Tide.
“We see a lot of these prodigy golfers, and they go out there and never win, but they look beautiful swinging. They’re technically proficient; they’re not competitively proficient. Kalen DeBoer is competitively proficient,” Klatt explained.
“This guy wins at an insanely high level everywhere that he’s been, and for that reason, I’m bullish. I think that it will work. I just think it will look a little different.”
