While Kalen DeBoer has been at the helm of Alabama for a few months now he still has things to learn about the program.

That may come as a surprise being that his staff currently has the No. 1 class in the country, and the Tide are still viewed as a championship contender ahead of his first season. However, while at the SEC media days, his predecessor Nick Saban offered up some advice about a former Tide player.

He started with this disclaimer that neither he nor former Alabama corner Roman Harper will be jumping to criticize him if things go South. He did however share that the same cannot be said for former star quarterback Greg McElroy.

“Let me share something with you. I’m never gonna criticize ya," Saban told new head coach Kalen DeBoer on the SEC Now panel. "Roman (Harper), defensive back, is never gonna criticize ya. McElroy on the other hand- he thinks he should be calling the plays. He’s gonna be a problem."

While Saban appeared to be joking, once Alabama fans caught wind of his comment there were plenty who supported that sentiment. One fan wrote , "Was he really joking, tho?" while another added , "Even Saban knows".

Despite leading the Tide to a title back in 2010, McElroy will not pull punches for any program in the country including his alma mater. Something that has bothered Alabama fans despite his success in the media.
