Roman Harper doesn't think Harold Perkins Jr. should be a preseason All-American

Recently, the Associated Press released its Preseason All-American teams. There was one Tiger who was named a first-team All-American by the AP which raised a few eyebrows. That player is LSU star linebacker Harold Perkins Jr..

Perkins burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2022 when he played in 14 games and made 72 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception. Last season, his production was not as great under his former defensive coordinator. He had 75 tackles in 13 games, but his sack number dipped from 7.5 to 5.5.

Roman Harper saw Perkins’s name on the preseason All-American list, and let’s say, he disagreed with it.

“Harold Perkins, he’s been really good at LSU,” SEC Network’s Roman Harper said, per On3. “I don’t think he should be a preseason All-American. If we keep stats, numbers for a reason — he didn’t have a great year, last year. If you want to pick All-American based on potential, then why you keeping the stats and the numbers?

“And if we want to say that, then let’s say that. But let’s call a spade a spade. This man has the opportunity to be a postseason All-American but preseason, he should not be there.”
