    Suspects make court appearances on assault, drug, DUI charges

    Four suspects facing charges ranging from aggravated assault to felony drug possession made initial appearances Thursday in Vicksburg Municipal Court.

    Vicksburg man charged with aggravated assault

    Officials with Vicksburg Police Department (VPD) said 24-year-old Tyler Mixon, of Vicksburg, was taken into custody Wednesday after officers served an arrest warrant at a residence on Alcorn Drive. According to VPD, Mixon was wanted for his alleged involvement in an aggravated assault that occurred in December.

    Mixon appeared Thursday before Judge Angela Carpenter in Vicksburg Municipal Court  on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a felon. He received a $325,000 bond and was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.

    Vicksburg man arrested for felony drug possession

    A Vicksburg man was taken into custody for drug possession following a traffic stop Wednesday.

    According to information from VPD, 24-year-old Ramon Harris was arrested after he was stopped while driving on Indiana Avenue and officers found oxycodone pills inside his vehicle.

    Harris was charged with possession of controlled substance.

    He appeared before Judge Angela Carpenter in Vicksburg Municipal Court Thursday and was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $20,000 bond.

    Norfort, Roby arrested for third, fourth DUIs, respectively

    Two separate arrests for driving under the influence now equal seven total offenses between two suspects.

    According to information from VPD, 59-year-old Hugh Norfort was arrested Saturday after the vehicle he was driving was stopped on Highway 61 North.

    Norfort was charged with driving under the influence, 3rd offense.

    He appeared in Vicksburg Municipal Court before Judge Angela Carpenter Thursday, where he was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $75,000 bond.

    A separate traffic stop Friday led to the arrest of 52-year-old Samuel Roby.

    VPD officials said Roby was arrested following a traffic stop on Sherman Avenue.

    Roby appeared in Vicksburg Municipal Court Thursday on a charge of driving under the influence, 4th offense.  Judge Angela Carpenter bound him over to the Warren County Grand Jury on a $75,000 bond.
