Wood County fire destroys structure, claims lives of two dogs
WALKER — A fire which destroyed an outbuilding and killed two pets at a residence in Walker is being ruled accidental. The Deerwalk Volunteer Fire Department, along with the East Wood and Waverly volunteer fire departments, responded to 877 Wright Rd. in Walker to a report of a structure fire Monday at around 4:30 p.m., said Deer Walk Fire Chief Matt Whitlatch.
Artists continuing work on Parkersburg flood wall mural
PARKERSBURG — Work is continuing on the flood wall mural as artists are working on creating images that tie into the history of the area. This is the fourth year of the project with the work in “Phase 4” which will include five sections of the wall done by four artists, said Edward Escandon, a representative from the Floodwall Mural Committee.
‘Misery’ Seeking Its Company: Actors Guild of Parkersburg holding auditions for play based on Stephen King classic
PARKERSBURG — Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday for “Misery” at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg. The play by William Goldman is based on the book by the same name by Stephen King written in 1987. A 1990 movie starred James Caan and Kathy Bates.
Artists ready to paint the town for First Friday in Marietta
MARIETTA — July’s First Friday event in Marietta is an Art Walk from 5-9 p.m. Friday. The second of three summer Art Walks, Friday’s First Friday also is a fundraiser for Marietta Main Street’s Public Art Committee. Main Street Marietta is the organizer of First Fridays.
Wine Down on Market hosting signing for Pettit book
PARKERSBURG — A noted author will speak and hold a book signing from 2-4 p.m. July 14 at a downtown Parkersburg establishment. Linda Sandel Pettit, Ed.D., will speak at Wine Down on Market and discuss her memoir, “Leaning into Curves.” Pettit is the winner of the 2024 Maxy Book Award for Self-Help and Inspiration.
