From vocal performances, instrumental performances, and comedic skits, Waseca High School students showed off their talents on Monday Feb. 5.

As part of their snow week, Waseca High School hosted their 2024 talent show at the Waseca Performing Arts Center.

Because it took place during snow week, the snow week king and queen candidates took center stage and danced to the song 'Cruisin' for a Bruisin.'" The song is from the 2013 Disney film Teen Beach Movie, which came out at the beginning of the candidates school period. They also individually talked about their school activities and activities outside of school as they introduced the talent performances.

The 2023 Waseca homecoming court also performed a skit, as they felt they were good kenough to perform during snow week as well. They danced to the song "I'm Just Ken" from the movie Barbie.

To add a few laughs to the show, the senior high student council performed a skit, telling jokes to one another.

The majority of performers showed off their vocal talents with singing songs ranging from 1980s rock songs to modern day folk songs. Patrick Howe sang "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure while Layla Keith sang "Stick Season" by Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan. With Becky Borheke on the piano, Sophie Chawra sang the 1970s county hit "Jolene" by Dolly Parton.

Adrian Arreguin also performed an emotional vocal piece, singing "Count On Me" by Bruno Mars. At the beginning of the performance, a video of Arreguin singing the same song when he was younger was shown.

"Please help me welcome our next act, which will be sure to tug at your heartstrings," snow week queen candidate Tegan Flatau said when introducing Arreguin.

Two of the high schools choir groups gave performances at the show, with the Waseca High School Female Sextet singing "Bring Me Little Water, Silvy" by Moira Smiley and the Waseca High School State Street Singers performing "Anywhere" by Ben Wexler to close out the talent show.

With Waseca having a stellar drama department, two students decided to showcase their musical talents by performing songs from famous musicals. Ashton Jenzen performed the song "Burn" from Hamilton while Norah Schimming joined her later on in the show to perform "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music together.

Jenzen and Schimming, along with snow week candidate Ethan Stenzel performed with the Jazz 1 ensemble to start off the show. The band started the show by performing the song "Pure Imagination" from the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory arranged by Craig Skeffington. The band also performed the song 'it Dont mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)" arranged by Mark Taylor.

A couple students displayed their instrumental talents, with Violet Rohwer performing "Old Joe Clark" on the violin and Oliver Rohwer performing "Odessa" by Matthew Lorick on the marimba.

Along with the snow week candidates introducing the talent acts, students Tristin Gross, Josie Madson and Trista Stinehart were the emcees for the show. They talked about the snow week activities happening during the week and also gave a shoutout to sports and activities programs as many of them will be competing for state bids this week.
