BETHESDA, M.D. — The Washington Capitals may not be on the ice right now as the 2024 Stanley Cup Final gets underway, but there has still been a lot of hockey — especially on this writer's end.

We're gearing up for the 2024 NHL Draft and 2024 NHL Awards, as well as the start of free agency. At the same time, the Hershey Bears are making their run for their second Calder Cup in as many years.

Hershey is taking on the Cleveland Monsters in the Eastern Conference Final, and the series has already commanded two overtime heroes in Mike Vecchione and Pierrick Dubé. Capitals prospects Hendrix Lapierre, Ethen Frank and Ivan Miroshnichenko, meanwhile, continue to make the most of their opportunities.

Still, with the NHL offseason dragging a bit, though, and The Hockey News launching our shiny new forum where you can post comments, I figured we'd start a daily forum where I could share some links and updates, and you guys could comment, too.

In personal hockey. news, I've been on the ice every three or four days, playing on two teams as I make the most of my own summer.

It's been going well, and boy, does it give you a deeper appreciation of the game.

Hockey's hard enough, but playing constantly on a schedule without breaks is something else. You can't take a night off, no matter how tired you are, and you need to maintain that high level of energy on a game-to-game basis, regardless of opponent.

Shoutout to the Ghost Pirates and HK-Mids for what's been a great spring campaign so far between both teams.
