Major City Making Strong Push to Host 2027 NFL Draft

Since 2016, the NFL draft has rotated host cities every year. Cities earn the right to host the draft via a bid to the league as it is a massive financial and public relations opportunity for a city and its NFL fanbase.

The 2025 draft will be in Green Bay. The 2026 draft was awarded to Pittsburgh, but there has been no final word on the 2027 host city. This is where Washington, D.C. comes in.

According to the Washington Post , they have dubbed their bid "Project Breeze," and their proposal includes activities at the National Mall. Denver is another city, along with D.C., making a push to host the draft in 2027.

NFL cities are pulling out all the stops to host the draft not only as a reward for their fans but also as a way to pull a massive amount of tourism and revenue into the city.

The city of Detroit hosted the 2024 NFL draft and it was their best hotel revenue week for hotels and hundreds of thousands of people attended.

The National Park Service chief of communications, Mike Litterst, said in a statement:

“The National Park Service has provided a letter of support to Events DC (the organization in negotiation with the NFL) for the NFL draft ‘to the degree that portions identified to take place on the National Mall can be organized and managed within the special event, sponsor recognition, and turf management guidelines in place for this iconic cultural landscape."
