Washington Nationals center fielder James Wood.

The Washington Nationals put up serious numbers against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday afternoon, and rookie James Wood contributed in a big way.

In the bottom of the second inning, Wood smashed his first career home run 383 feet into the left field seats. The three-run shot added to the Nationals' already-impressive early lead to further put them up 7-0.

Wood wasn't done there either. In the bottom of the third inning, he hit a two-run double to left field to increase Washington's lead to 11-4.

He would finish the game going two-for-five with an impressive five RBI in Washington's 14-6 rout over St. Louis.

MLB's No. 2 prospect is now batting .304 with a stellar .885 OPS after just six games in the majors.

According to MLB stats , Wood has reached base safely 10 times in 24 plate appearances this season for a phenomenal .407 OBP.

After Saturday's win, Washington is still under .500 but just two games behind the New York Mets for third in the National League East. They are also four-and-a-half games back of the National League wild card.
