WEST UNION, W.Va. (WBOY) — The Bulldog Station has been a staple for delicious food in West Union for quite some time, providing the community with pizzas, subs, calzones and even a laugh or two.

“We have a lot of like regulars that come in from like different plants and stuff that want to come in and they have a good time when they’re here. We sit and laugh and make jokes with them all day long, while they’re here,” Bulldog Station Co-Owner Mendy Gray said.

Mendy Gray and her mother Beth Barnes have a long history working at the Bulldog Station, so when the previous owner approached them in October of 2022 asking if they would be interested in buying the restaurant, the answer came easy.

“We worked for the previous owner for four years and then he offered to sell it to us, and we said ‘yep, we better do it,’ because we’ve been here since he opened. So, we knew the ups and downs of it, so we decided we would just buy it,” Co-Owner Beth Barnes said.

Owning a restaurant in a small town can be a challenge when it comes to gaining customers, but Barnes said that working in the food industry is all she’s known, so she’ll take that challenge.

“You’ve just got your usual, your locals. You know you’ve got your local businesses and stuff through the daytime, like courthouse, the pharmacy, the libraries, the banks. I mean we are here to serve the locals,” said Gray.

With a community that supports them, Gray said one of the things the Bulldog Station is most known for is giving back, and they try to help others if they’re in need.

“It’s been my life; I wouldn’t know what else to do. I couldn’t go get a job and do something else because this is all I have ever done,” said Barnes.

The Bulldog Station specializes in takeout and does not offer a dine-in area. For the restaurant’s hours, menu and daily specials, you can check out their Facebook Page, Bulldog Station .
