HOLLYWOOD, S.C. (WCBD) – Mt. Pleasant native Marion Brown has called Baptist Hill High School home for nearly two decades.

“They have accepted me because I came here running as someone who really wanted to do something for the community as well as the kids of the community.”

Double digit win seasons, deep playoff runs, the name Marion Brown has been synonymous with winning at Baptist Hill.

“We’ve had some awesome teams here within those 17 years, so we just want to continue that winning tradition at Baptist Hill High School.”

Now Coach Browns name will hold more meaning as it will soon stretch across the field at Brockington-Herne Stadium.

“It’s an awesome feeling, it means a lot. It tells me how well respected, how people appreciate exactly what I’m doing here.”

Coach never thought he’d be at Baptist Hill long enough to receive this honor.

Seeing it now come to fruition last Friday brought back a flood of memories.

“Just a feeling that just came over you and you were just so overwhelmed by that feeling.”

As well as the bobcats have performed in Browns time, there isn’t any pressure now that they will be playing on a field that graces Brown’s name.

“No, because like I tell the kids, you cannot allow your personal feelings to be stronger or more important than the team’s outlet. So, I don’t have any pressure at all. Because the purpose here is to win football games, not have Marion Brown’s name on the field and be in awe every time I run on the field.”

Brown came running to Baptist Hill and each time his players run past his name, it will mean a lot to coach because he’s doing something he’s always loved.
