    Five injured in multi-vehicle I-70 crash

    TEUTOPOLIS, Ill. (WCIA) – First responders rushed to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on I-70 in Effingham County Thursday evening.

    Shortly after 5:15 p.m., Teutopolis and Montrose Fire Departments responded to a multi-vehicle accident on I-70 eastbound between the I-57 north exit and the Montrose exit, just north of Teutopolis.

    Once on the scene, officials determined that four tractor-trailer semis and five passenger vehicles were involved in the crash. Three of those vehicles left the interstate and ended up on the nearby frontage road. The barrier wall partially ended up in the westbound lanes as a result of the crash.

    The fire department reported that all occupants had been able to get out of the vehicles on their own and nobody was trapped.

    Rural Med EMS transported five patients to the hospital following the crash.

    Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
