WAUKEGAN, Ill. — A man already in prison has been charged with murder after a man was shot over 40 times two years ago in Waukegan.

On July 19, 2022, officers responded to the 2400 block of Samson Way on the report of shots fired.

Officers located Alvaro Ruiz-Casillas in a parking lot suffering from over 40 gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at Vista East Medical Center.

Police believe he was walking to his vehicle when another vehicle pulled up. One gunman got out and two remained inside with all three firing shots at Ruiz-Casillas.

The vehicle fled the area but was later recovered in a rural area in Beach Park.

On July 15 of this year, a warrant was issued for Anthony Gallegos on three counts of first-degree murder. He was already in prison for a prior weapons case.

He was indicted on July 31 and detectives said they are continuing to work to bring charges against the other suspects.
