James Madison QB Alonza Barnett III Had To Be Revived On The Field By His Teammate After Brutal Cheap Shot

It's not just a loose universal recommendation that quarterbacks take care of their offensive linemen. They're the best protection QBs have from massive humans on the other side of the ball knocking them into next week. Those big uglies in the trenches are quite literal lifesavers oftentimes. That sure was the case on Saturday in James Madison's otherwise drama-free 30-7 romp over Charlotte. Somebody on the losing team got in their feelings and decided it was worth putting JMU signal-caller Alonza Barnett III's life in danger. A cheap shot after the whistle sent Barnett flying to the canvas, to the point where he did multiple, complete rolls before winding up on his back. One of his blockers rushed over when it was clear Barnett couldn't move. Chest compressions ensued, and miraculously, the QB sprung to life once again! https://twitter.com/ESPNCFB/status/1830091605358891009 The announcer with one of the most understated calls of all-time right here: https://twitter.com/awfulannouncing/status/1830096671419633758 So yeah obviously Barnett pulled off the flop of all flops... Thought about starting this with, "And the Oscar goes to..." but The Academy doesn't often reward comedies. Unless you take Arthur Fleck's line from
Joker at face value, where he views his life as a comedy rather than a tragedy. Joaquin Phoenix did deservedly win Best Actor for that iconic role. It's wild that he got the golden statue and now gets to do a sequel. I don't feel like that's hitting people. Literally unprecedented as far as I know. OK Joker tangent over. Big ups to the late-night college football players for keeping things interesting on what was mostly a dud of an opening college football Week 1 Saturday. Robert Morris defensive back Rob Carter Jr. went full RCJ and arguably topped OBJ's one-handed catch with an incredible interception. https://twitter.com/BREAL412/status/1830062601734111462?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw Yup. Worth seeing again. And Barnett provided some post-whistle entertainment that I won't soon forget. Appreciate the thespianship. All of Saturday's marquee games were snoozers. The only close one, Notre Dame beating Texas A&M, was super ugly and featured the Aggies' potential top QB prospect Conner Weigman playing like trash. In his defense, I did see him puke on the sidelines, so maybe he was playing ill. Either way, woof. Let's hope tonight's USC-LSU top 25 tilt in Vegas lives up to the hype.
