Hate the heat? “Let it Go” and watch the “Frozen” stage musical from the air-conditioned comfort of Century II’s Concert Hall this weekend. Music Theatre Wichita’s production of the musical opens on Friday for a two-week run.
Though the Fourth of July weekend isn’t exactly packed with activities, the entertainment calendar still has several concerts on it — plus it’s First Friday.
Here’s a look at some of the fun things happening in Wichita this weekend and into next week:
‘Frozen’ on stage
Friday through July 14, Century II Concert Hall, 225 W. Douglas
Music Theatre Wichita’s next production is a stage version of the musical “Frozen,” and MTW is one of the first regional theater companies being allowed to put it on. First Friday Gallery Crawl
Friday, various Wichita art galleries
First Friday has come around again, and Wichita galleries are inviting art fans to visit opening-night receptions for various shows. Among this month’s openings: a show by Tarah Lynn Clark and Lari Howard at Art House 310, 310 S. Laura, and shows called “Special Delivery” by Aaron Morgan Brown and “Journey” by R. Todd Slawson at Reuben Saunders Gallery, 3215 E. Douglas. Hopping Gnome brewing at 1719 E. Electronic music at Wave
8 p.m. Friday, Wave, 650 E. Second
Wave, the music venue at Second and St. Francis, will put on an indoor concert headlined by Eazybaked on Friday. The band, made up of longtime best friends Eric Ray and Andrew Principe from Orlando, perform dance/electronic music. The bill also includes acts Just Tommy and DJ Goaty The Kid. The show starts at 8 p.m., and doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance or $39.43 the day of the show, which is open to all ages. Get tickets at waveict.com or at the door.
Market and food truck rally
10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Blood Orchard, 6436 S. Broadway
Blood Orchard at 6346 S. Broadway is putting on its monthly vintage market and Southside Food Truck Rally this weekend. The event lasts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and will include shopping for vintage, rustic, shabby-chic and handmade items from local vendors. It also will feature food by several local food trucks from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. People can also try beer from the orchard’s on-site brewery, Blood Orchard Brewing Co. Admission is free.
Escape the City
10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Wichita
Escape the City is an “Outdoor Escape Room Adventure” that will happen from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Teams of up to six players pay $60 and then will be challenged to work together to decipher clues and crack codes across the city. Beartooth at the Cotillion
6:30 p.m. Thursday, the Cotillion, 11125 W. Kellogg
Beartooth will bring its summer 2024 tour to the Cotillion in Wichita on Thursday. The rock act from Columbus, Ohio, that’s lead by vocalist Caleb Shomo performs starting at 6:30 p.m., and the doors open at 5:30 p.m. The opening acts are Currents, Boundaries and Nevertel.
