AFter getting word yesterday that the Danbury Stop and Shop on Newtown Road is among the chain’s stores marked for permanent closure later this year, Danbury officials are now scrambling to find a new grocery store to take its place. Farley Santos, advisor to Mayor Roberto Alves, says the goal is finding a store that will contribute to the community and create local jobs. One of City's Oldest Parks Getting Massive Makeover with Work Set to be Finished in Month of September
A major makeover of one of the city’s oldest recreational venues is in full swing and should be complete before the end of summer. According to Bridgeport Parks and Recreation Director Joe Shuttleworth, several major projects at Compton Park are progressing nicely, and some are complete. Sunlight glistened on Lake Zoar Sunday morning, when Leyenda Harley, of Hamden, and Soshi, her five-year-old English shepherd with a light brown and white coat, boarded Stevenson Fire Boat 1, which was docked at the boat launch behind Lake Zoar Drive-In on Route 34 in Monroe. The red Whaly was captained by Stevenson Assistant Fire Chief Eric Christensen, who guided the motorized vessel out onto the open water.
