PARIS (WOOD) — Grand Blanc native Grant Fisher picked up his second bronze medal of the Paris Games on Saturday in the 5,000 meters, making history along the way.

Fisher, who last week won bronze in the 10,000 meters , now becomes the first American man to medal in both the 5,000 meters and the 10,000 meters in the same Olympic Games.

“I’m exhausted,” he said on Saturday. “It’s all over now but I feel so good, I feel so happy.”

Fisher said he felt the pressure in the 10,000 meters, but winning his first medal helped relieve some of that pressure.

“I had built this up in my head for so long. Then, when I finally got a medal, it felt so good and weight off my shoulders,” he told reporters. “So this one, I felt like I had nothing to lose.”

The Olympian said winning a medal felt “a little contagious.”

“I wanted another one,” he said. “And I had seen so many of my teammates, Team USA, getting medals and fighting to the line and grabbing them right at the last second. When you see that happen, you believe in yourself, too. Feels good to be part of something like that.”

Now, Fisher said, he can finally celebrate his victories.

“After the 10K, I couldn’t celebrate too much because I had the 5K still,” he said. “So I’ll have a more proper celebration, probably go out with my family, my friends, maybe some guys on Team USA, because this has been a pretty historic Olympics for the track team.”
