GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A 106-year-old World War II veteran from Michigan has died.

Robert Holt, who lived in Albion, has passed away, the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight told News 8 Saturday.

Holt was on the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., in May. He served in Germany, and during his first mission, his truck hit a land mine and exploded. Holt was thrown from the truck but wasn’t injured.

Holt also got the chance to meet another 106-year-old veteran: Irene Hosking, a nurse who served in Australia. The two, born just 10 days apart in April 1918, spent hours talking.
