Crossroads Park in West Des Moines Opens After Large Fight Friday
(West Des Moines, IA) -- Crossroads Park in West Des Moines is back open after having been shut down over the weekend following a large fight. West Des Moines Police say the fight involved roughly 50 people Friday night. Investigators say they found evidence of illegal drugs and a loaded AK-47 rifle at the scene. Police decided to close the park over the weekend. The park re-opened Monday morning. One suspect is in custody.
Donors to Iowa Architectural Foundation education campaign will receive instructions to build Lego Des Moines skyline
The Iowa Architectural Foundation (IAF) has announced its “Build the Future!” fundraising campaign in which, for a limited time, each donor to the foundation’s Architecture in the Schools program will receive free instructions to build a Lego version of the Des Moines skyline. Joe Feldmann, an associate principal at OPN Architects who created a model of Des Moines’ skyline in Legos, donated the exclusive build instructions for the fundraiser. The model includes features such as 801 Grand, the Iowa State Capitol and the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. The pieces to build the model are not included. “This unique opportunity not only supports architectural education in our schools but also allows our community to engage with the beauty of Des Moines in a fun and interactive way,” said Laura Porter, executive director of the Iowa Architectural Foundation, in a prepared statement. According to a news release, the IAF’s Architecture in the Schools program aims to inspire K-12 students by bringing architecture into the classroom and fostering an appreciation for the built environment. Seneca Cos. names new president, chief operating officer
Seneca Cos., a Des Moines-based petroleum products company, has announced Darren Binning as its new president and chief operating officer. Binning’s 20-year career with Seneca started in 2004 when he joined as a project manager. Most recently, he served as vice president of the company. He graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in environmental science.
