PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man will spend more than a decade behind bars for shooting an 18-year-old worker in the leg outside a Providence convenience store, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha announced Thursday.

Emmanuel Narcisse, 21, was sentenced to serve 14 years at the ACI, plus an eight-year suspended sentence to be served if he violates probation.

In January, Narcisse was found guilty of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence, and carrying a pistol without a license.

The shooting happened at G.I. Joe’s Convenience Store on Smith Street on the evening of Oct. 1, 2020. The victim told police that two men had walked into the store and left without paying for a drink.

The victim confronted the men outside, which led to a fight, according to Neronha. Two more individuals joined, one of them being Narcisse, who fired shots at the victim and his car.

“We all should be able to feel reasonably safe from harm while at work, and yet this victim nearly lost his life at the hands of a criminal with access to a gun,” Neronha added. “This defendant used a firearm to resolve a fistfight, and thankfully, the victim survived to help investigators deliver justice.”
