Morrow Twins usher in first season as co-head coaches at Melrose

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — On the sideline this season there will be two headsets leading the Melrose Golden Wildcats.

” We split it up, he’s the head coach of the offense and I’m the head coach of the defense. With both of us being here, we’ve always shared everything, and why not share this experience as well,” said Golden Wildcats co-head coach Jarrett Morrow.

This is a dream come true opportunity for twin brothers Jarrett and Gerald Morrow to take over at their alma mater.

” We have to teach these kids how to lead, because this generation, it’s almost like you have to find leaders because it’s tough to leave now with social media because everybody wants to be liked and as a leader, you’re not going to be like all the time, you have to make tough decisions,” said Jarrett Morrow.

Also joining the family this season in Orange Mound is four-star running back and Missouri commit Jamarion Morrow who transferred from Germantown to be coached by his dad Jarrett and uncle Gerald for his final high school season.

” It’s been wonderful for me because when they were coaching here, I used to be the little kid in a locker room running around, and it’d been great just to be able to put on the maroon and gold,” said Jamarion Morrow.

It’s a dream come true, so basically he graduates in December, so to have him and coach him during his last year as he moves on to college to the next level has been amazing,” said Jarrett.

Both Jarrett and Gerald were a part of the Golden Wildcats’ last state championship team in 1998. The duo would like nothing more than to bring a state title back to their alma mater, but the decision to coach where they once played runs deeper than the X’s and O’s.

” We talked about the situation that happened at Orange Mound Park and that really moved us and it was just like, God just literally telling us it has to be you two,” said Gerald.

” We don’t like where our community is right now. We want to help rebuild and get it back to when you didn’t have to look over your shoulder. When your kids can go around and just play with other kids. Orange Mound is everything to us,” said Jarrett.
