MPD investigating shootout in apartment complex parking lot

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are investigating an overnight shooting that occurred in the parking lot of a Hickory Hill apartment complex.

Officers responded to a shooting in progress in the 6400 block of Lake Arbor Trail. When they arrived, officers located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was taken to Regional One Hospital in non-critical condition.

Officers spoke to another victim who said that she was asleep inside her apartment’s bedroom when she heard several loud popping sounds coming from outside.

She said that shortly after the popping sounds ceased, her fiance (the male victim) entered their apartment exclaiming that he had been shot.

Officers watched video footage that showed at approximately 2:13 a.m., a suspect wearing all-black clothing with a face mask and black shoes with white striping on them exited the driver’s side door of a Nissan Maxima and began to fire at the male victim as he exited the apartment.

The victim and suspect exchanged gunfire in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

The footage showed that when the shooting, the suspect limped around the front of the victim’s vehicle and headed towards a white SUV that was parked by a bush.

As the suspect approached the SUV, it pulled away, driving westbound on Lake Arbor Trail. As the suspect’s vehicle continued driving, a second suspect wearing all gray was seen opening the passenger door of the vehicle and firing at the victim’s apartment before the vehicle exited the apartment complex.

Officers located shell casings on the ground next to the victim’s Nissan Maxima. The scene officers also discovered the couple’s apartment had been struck by gunfire.
