BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio (WTRF) — Construction on the Belmont County Dog Park is progressing.

Sheriff Dave Lucas says that winter weather and the extremely wet spring have impacted the timeline.

He says the fencing and gates are installed, but maintenance and cleanup still have to be done where the water lines were put in.

He says it would do more harm than good…to work there right now while the ground is still soggy.

But he says it will be done soon.

All the signage is done, I would say 90% of the concrete is done. The bricks that we have right now will get installed. And then the other ones that come that come that people donate will get installed. But it’s going to be opening up here soon, as soon as this weather and we can finish the project.”

He says when it’s done, they’ll hold a grand opening so people and their dogs can begin to enjoy it.

And soon after that, they’ll build the pavilion portion of the dog park.

He says it couldn’t have happened without the generous support of many contributors.
