45th Annual Oglebay Woodcarvers Show features artistic creations from across the country

WHEELING, W.Va. (WTRF) — It’s a show that is put on every year and one that brings artists from all over the country.

The Oglebay Woodcarver Club presented its 45th consecutive Woodcarvers Show on Saturday and Sunday.

The work displayed comes from many local club members, and almost half of the artists are from out of state.

The show is completely free for anyone to enjoy, and the club also accepts any donations, which they then donate to local food pantries.

The president of the Woodcarvers Guild shares exactly what their goal is at the event each year.

People think it’s getting a stick out in the woods and carving a point on it. But if you look around here and you see here, this is art. It’s not whittling, it’s art. We got sculptors here. They’re making some really beautiful things and that’s what we’re trying to promote, is the idea that we’re not just trying to make toothpicks and things like that. We’re trying to make something that people want in their homes.”

Anyone who attended the event also received a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a piece of woodwork.
