TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Fires along the median Monday of Interstate 70 caused the closure of the road for 30 minutes.

According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames, a semi accidentally set brush on fire in the median between mile markers one through seven. Sgt. Ames stated, this was caused by a chain dragging on the road behind the semi leaving sparks behind it. Subsequently, the semi blew a tire and the combination caused the brush fires to spring up in the median.

The Indiana State Police urge all motorists to be careful during the extremely dry conditions we’ve been experiencing. They ask to please watch any burning material you may be tossing from your car, namely cigarettes.
