ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Property Manager Augusta Realty is working hard to find housing solutions for those who lost their home in Spanish Arms Apartment fire.

Throughout the day, many tenants at the Spanish Arms Apartments have been salvaging what remains of their possessions after a fire devastated their homes and leaving many wondering where to go. Property manager for the apartments, Augusta Realty, was out bright and early joining the Red Cross this morning to check on their tenants to make sure everyone was safe. Knowing that their tenants would need aid, Augusta stepped into action and spent the day offering them solutions for housing, and Augusta General Manager Courtney Jenkins gave the details on what they are offering.

“We’re helping rehome them for the owner. We’re getting them any apartment complex that we have available that that fits their needs,” Jenkins says. “Any tenant that we don’t have something that fits what they’re looking for, we are giving them back their July prorated rent as well as their security deposit today so that they can have somewhere to sleep tonight.”

One of the residents of the apartment David Kilcrease has lived at the Spanish Arms for around 8 years and told us that he would likely be sleeping in his truck if not for the efforts of Augusta Realty. Kilcrease outlined how he is a diabetic and when the property management company arrived in the early hours, it was them who ensured that David was able to salvage his insulin from his apartment so that he could have access to his life saving medication.

Kilcrease went on to describe the diligence of Augusta during this difficult time saying, “they’re on top of everything, trying to get everybody into another place as soon as possible. I mean, they’ve worked really hard with me trying to get me into a place really quickly, and they’ve done that. It’ll be okay, and I have to start over.”

Around 20 individuals were displaced due to the fire, and Augusta tells us that they are not going home until every one of them has a place to safely sleep tonight. They are appealing to the Abilene community for any aid they can spare for the victims of this fire. Saying that supplies like blankets, clothing, bottled water and nonperishable food items would be ideal and that you can donate them directly to their offices at 2481 South Danville Drive.
