The Auburn Tigers did not have the best season in 2023 when it came to catching the ball.

Rivaldo Fairweather, a tight end, led the Tigers in receiving yards and touchdowns with 394 and six respectively.

Auburn did not have a true wide receiver cross the 350-yard threshold and only two catch for 300 yards.

This is a unit that needed improvement ahead of the 2024 season.

Freeze brought in a group of elite recruits at the position including two five-star prospects in Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson.

Additionally, the Tigers added some veterans to the room through the transfer portal including Robert Lewis and KeAndre Lambert-Smith.

Freeze talked about the leadership shown by the two new veterans.

"If I were to go through them, Dre (KeAndre Lambert-Smith) has been solid, he's been a good leader," Freeze said. "Robert Lewis has really taken on a leadership role in that room. They are both going to be depended upon to give us solid minutes and do the right things and the needed things."

Freeze mentioned how Coleman and Thompson will make an early impact at the position.

"Perry (Thompson) and (Cam Coleman) have the bodies right now to do that," Freeze said. "There's a lot of things to learn for sure. Particularly the top end of the route stuff for them and how to play fast every play."

The Tigers appear to be in a position to right the ship in the passing game with a talented group of targets for quarterback Payton Thorne.

"I'm pleased with where that room is right now."
