With the Washington Commanders’ regular-season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fast approaching, head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters are closely assessing the roster. Despite some promising signs, the team faces challenges on the offensive side, with the stock of several key players dropping as Preseason Week 2 nears.

The Commanders’ offensive line has long been a concern, and recent performances have not eased those worries. Michael Deiter , a versatile interior lineman, showed promise in training camp but struggled in practice and the preseason opener against the New York Jets .

While his roster spot isn't immediately at risk, Deiter’s inconsistency is troubling for a team in need of reliable depth. His veteran experience might help him recover, but he must quickly regain form to secure his place.

Marcus Mariota’s role as backup and mentor to rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is clear, but his lackluster preseason performance has sparked speculation about his future with the team.

While it’s unlikely Mariota will be cut, his chances of seeing significant playing time have diminished, with the Commanders fully committed to Daniels as their franchise quarterback.

Mariota’s opportunities to make an impact may be limited to his mentorship duties.

Once seen as a rising star, Jahan Dotson is now facing increased scrutiny. Despite his potential, Dotson’s underwhelming performance in the preseason opener has cast doubt on his status as the team’s No. 2 wideout. While he has shown flashes of chemistry with Daniels in training camp, Dotson’s inconsistent production raises concerns.

As competition in the wide receiver room intensifies, Dotson must prove his worth in the remaining preseason games to secure his role.

As the Commanders continue their preseason, these players’ performances will be crucial in determining the team’s offensive readiness for the 2024 season.
