Kirby Smart Reveals Toughest Stadium To Play In The SEC

Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart was recently interviewed by ESPN college football analysts Marty Smith and Ryan McGee before the 2024 season.

Smith and McGee interviewed Smart about his time coaching in the SEC and took the time to ask an interesting question.

They asked Smart what the loudest stadium he's ever coached in was, and Smart quickly replied, giving credit to the Auburn Tigers.

He described two memorable moments in his college football career: one as a player with the Bulldogs and another as a coach with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

"I have to go Auburn," Smart said. "Just, the games that I've been involved in there, triple, quadruple overtime as a player. First time, overtime ever in college football, I was in that game. Loud as could be. Fast forward to being a coach at Alabama, Kick Six, loudest I've ever heard it."

Smart was a defensive back for the Bulldogs from 1995-1998. The Bulldogs coach is referring to the 1996 overtime game, in which Georgia marched into Auburn and defeated the Tigers 56-49 after four overtimes.

Years after his playing career, Smart played a vital role as the defensive coordinator of the Crimson Tide. He was on the Alabama coaching staff from 2007-2015.

During his time with the Tide, Smart played a part in one of the most iconic plays in college football history.

The "Kick Six" Smart is referring to happened in 2013 when the Crimson Tide played Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium. At the time, Alabama was the No. 1 team in the country, while the Tigers were listed at No. 4.

Late in the fourth quarter, it seemed Alabama would walk away from rivalry territory unscathed, but Chris Davis and the "Kick Six" ended the game with a 109-yard touchdown off a missed field goal by the Crimson Tide.

Smart believes that game was the loudest he's ever heard Jordan-Hare Stadium.

The Bulldogs won't have a chance to witness the Auburn atmosphere in 2024, but Smart will welcome the Tigers to Georgia on Oct. 5.
