Do Commanders Need to Acquire New Offensive Line Help?
By Austin Givan,

The Washington Commanders are nearing the end of their 2024 training camp, but the critical task of finalizing the roster is far from over. Under the leadership of new general manager Adam Peters , the team has undergone a significant rebuild, yet gaps remain, particularly on the offensive line. As the Commanders hold the No. 2 position in the waiver wire order until Week 4, Peters is well-positioned to capitalize on any potential talent that becomes available.

One area of concern is the depth along the offensive line. While the starting five appears solid, especially with rookie Brandon Coleman showing promise at left tackle, any injuries could expose vulnerabilities. This issue hasn’t gone unnoticed by Peters, who may seek to bolster the line with players like Jackson Carman , whose future with the Cincinnati Bengals is uncertain.
Carman, a former second-round pick, has not developed as expected since entering the league. Despite his versatility—being able to play both on the edge and the interior—his recent preseason performance raised questions about his long-term prospects with the Bengals. His lackluster showing in the preseason opener has only heightened concerns, making him a potential candidate for release.
If Carman becomes available, he could offer the Commanders a valuable depth option on the offensive line. While signing Carman would be a gamble, his experience and versatility might make him a worthwhile addition, especially considering the thin depth behind Washington’s starters.
As the Commanders continue to refine their roster, Peters’ ability to identify and sign players who can contribute immediately will be crucial. With the waiver wire order in their favor, the Commanders are in a strong position to add key reinforcements as they prepare for the 2024 season.
