    Will Commanders Trade Jahan Dotson?

When a new coaching staff is welcomed inside a team facility, it's not uncommon for previously high-value players to be pushed to the side for the skill set of different players at the position.

For Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders , that player seemingly being pushed aside is former first-round pick Jahan Dotson. Instead of the Penn State product being the team's expected second receiver opposite Terry McLaurin, the Commanders are putting it to a position battle.

“There's a lot of guys that are really battling," Quinn said. "I've been really impressed with [WR] Olamide [Zaccheaus] and I thought he's had a really strong camp. I'm looking forward to getting [WR] Luke [McCaffrey] some extra work into here, [WR] Jahan [Dotson], [WR] Dyami [Brown]. So that's where we're at and then the special teams is gonna have a factor in that as well.”

In many cases, the incumbent players in a position battle are usually traded away before the start of the season to give them a chance to start on other teams.

Could the Commanders do that with Dotson?

Dotson has recorded over 500 yards receiving in each of his first two years with the team and is still only 24 years old. There could be plenty of teams interested in the youngster should Washington feel it's time to move on from Dotson.

It may not happen right away, but the longer the Commanders have this position battle, the more likely it is that Dotson could simply be out of a job in Washinton.
