The new-look SEC and the new-look College Football Playoff have brought more excitement to the sport. However, they have also ignited a debate over how many teams from the SEC will qualify for the playoff.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum believes that there is a case for eight teams to legitimately compete for a spot in the playoffs. He seems most confident in seven teams: Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels, Missouri Tigers, LSU Tigers and the Tennessee Volunteers.

"The most obvious are the two at the top and that's Texas and Georgia," Finebaum said. "Georgia being No. 1. After that, you have Alabama, Ole Miss and Missouri. Then I'd add two more, LSU and Tennessee."

According to ESPN's Football Power Index , five of the seven teams mentioned by Finebaum have a top-10 chance to make the playoffs. The only two that don't are LSU and Ole Miss. However, both of them are ranked in the top 20 nationally.

Finebaum also mentioned Oklahoma as his eighth team. The Sooners rank No. 10 in the FPI. He feels Oklahoma is on the fringe and just one upset away from making the playoff. It's worth noting that Finebaum did not mention the Texas A&M Aggies; however, according to the FPI, the Aggies have a higher chance of making the playoff than Ole Miss.

Still, it's believed that the SEC will be well represented in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.
