Former Texas Longhorns Pitcher Makes Blunt Admission After Jim Schlossnagle Hire

The Texas A&M Aggies lost their baseball coach to the rival Texas Longhorns on Tuesday. Texas faithful have thoughts on the move.

Among popular narratives in college baseball is the notion that Texas baseball no longer has the drawing power it once had. The Longhorns' recent hire of Jim Schlossnagle indicates that assessment might not be accurate.

Texas went across the street and hired one of the most accomplished coaches in college baseball on Tuesday. It did so a day after he coached the Longhorns' rival in the College World Series final.

Former Texas pitcher and national title winner Randy Boone had the following to say of those doubting his school's baseball program on the "Everyone Gets a Trophy" podcast.

"So, I'll say this right now. The University of Texas baseball program is second to none. And I think they just found that out."

Despite historical success , Texas is still several years removed from its last national title win in 2005. It might have found the coach to get there.

The newly hired Texas Longhorns coach has reached seven College World Series in his coaching career, with two appearances at Texas A&M and five at TCU.

Schlossnagle deserves plenty of credit for what he accomplished at Texas A&M. In three years in College Station, he was responsible for two of Texas A&M's eight College World Series appearances.

Texas and Texas A&M will meet again as members of the same conference in 2025.
