AVON, Conn. (WTNH) — A dog allegedly thrown from a moving vehicle on Route 44 Tuesday is recovering well after surgery for a broken pelvis, according to Avon Animal Control officers.

Animal control- who named the pup “Amelia Airheart”- posted to Facebook late Wednesday night to say she pulled through the surgery beautifully.

They thanked Lesham Emergency Vet for their work mending the dog’s pelvis, which was broken in four places.

Officials are vetting foster applications to take care of Amelia during her recovery, which they expect will take about a month. They’re looking for a quiet and calm home for the roughly 1-year-old Lhasa Apso.

Animal control has nicknamed the Lhasa Apso “Amelia Earhart,” following the incident because the dog went flying out of the vehicle.
